Benjamin Samann
Director
Ben Samann is a hospitality entrepreneur and conservationist dedicated to aligning tourism with environmental stewardship. He owns Viamede Resort and The Park by Land’escapes, Canada’s largest individually owned protected area, covering 26,300 acres. With a background in hospitality management, Ben has led major land conservation efforts in Ontario, protecting critical wildlife corridors that support many at-risk turtle species. His properties integrate habitat preservation, community engagement, and visitor education, creating unique experiences that inspire environmental awareness.
Ben’s connection to turtle conservation runs deep. The lands he manages safeguard vital nesting areas while contributing to broader conservation science and advocacy. As a TSA Canada board member, he champions initiatives that link land protection with measurable conservation outcomes. He supports several conservation organizations, including the Ontario Conservation Accelerator, Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre, and Kawartha Land Trust, and brings governance experience from his long-standing board role with Golden Rescue.
An avid outdoorsman, Ben enjoys tackling long hikes across Ontario’s parks and natural areas, guided by the same curiosity and appreciation for the outdoors that fuel his passion for turtles.
